The industrious goats who devoured the blackberry-enveloped hillside may have been our most captivating workers, but no less notable are the people who toil steadily at preserving, salvaging and restoring this reimagined, seven-floor building. It’s a monumental task; the Elks Lodge sat empty for more than 20 years and had its fair share of temporary guests, some armed with cans of spray paint. Artists echo the graffiti musings in the custom paintings they have animated the space with. And in the spirit of true restoration, damaged and neglected woodwork, molding and friezes are being replicated so the Elks’ original craftwork is not lost.

The end result, debuting in a few short months, will include hotel rooms, bars, brewery, ballroom and a good time.
