Kennedy School is honored to host the 2024 Portland Film Festival! Called “one of the coolest film festivals in the world” by film industry magazine MovieMaker, this four-day indie film frenzy features nearly 100 movies from directors all over the globe.

Festival Director of Programming Joe Stephens calls this year’s festival “a soul-drenching catalogue of stories…on today’s most important issues.” Find films covering various themes, like the tale of the last remaining trolley park at Oaks Park (Trolley Park: Out West), a cinéma verité documentary about right-wing extremists (Homegrown), the story of the longest-reigning female wrestling champion (Queen of the Ring) and much more. Plus, collections of short films covering topics from mental health to Indigenous voices to women’s stories and beyond. Additionally, nearly 50% of this year’s featured films were directed by women, making this one of the most gender equitable film festivals in the country.

During the event, make sure you vote for your favorite film! Paper ballots will be passed out after each film screening so your voice can be heard. We’ll be capping the festival off with encore screenings of the Narrative Award-winning and Documentary Award-winning films (chosen by Portland Film Fest’s expert panel), as well as the Audience Choice Award-winning film, so make sure you stay through to the end!
