About Bread & Gravy
"This dynamic vibe band, based out of Sequim, Washington on the Olympic Peninsula, brings a wide range of music styles to the stage, including Americana, Blues, Rock, Soul & much more. Stephanie and Jess Doenges (married) are the heart and soul of Bread & Gravy. They can be seen performing at every show, whether it's as a duo or as a much larger band. Bread & Gravy, in all its forms, has been in the music scene for about 11 years, performing full time, but are new to a wider market, recently headlining at small festivals and reaching a much larger audience.
As a career highlight, Jess, (along with a little help from the rest of Bread & Gravy and friends) also wrote, produced and starred, alongside Stephanie, in an entire rock opera at the international concert hall, Field Arts & Events Hall in April of 2025 that was wildly successful! The production involved about 15 musicians and actors and had 42 movie backdrops that played on the giant screen on the back of the stage during the show. These were filmed, edited, and directed by Jess & Stephanie.
As Bread & Gravy's talented lead singer, Stephanie Doenges's voice is what people always remember the most. She captivates with her soulful and powerful pipes and she also plays a variety of instruments including (but not limited to); guitar, harmonica, flute and ukulele. Stephanie is a lifelong musician who, although born in Washington, has a strong musical influence from her Southern upbringing in Georgia. Stephanie is a bit of a "Jill of all trades" and dabbles successfully in many things, including: sound engineering, photography, videography, live sound, content creation, painting (and other art forms) and song writing.
Stephanie's prettier half, Jess Doenges is skilled on the piano and is known for his animated and fun style of playing and he often has half the audience laughing and the other half groaning and rolling their eyes. He is also known for his Spoken Word/Slam Poetry, which was incorporated into the Rock Opera at Field Hall.
The other 2 members for this show, drummer Jerry Gilleland on drums/percussion, and Jason Taylor on bass and harmonies make up the killer rhythm section of the band. Jerry is the sweetest musician on the Olympic Peninsula, and people who wear dresses envy him for his pocket presence. His decades of professional experience, plus his eagerness to still always learn more, are qualities that hold the beat and the vibe together at all times. Jason Taylor, although joyfully joining Bread & Gravy for this show, has recently moved eastward and left the band to start his new life and projects. These newer projects include Whump, a rad funk power trio, and Tuff Puffin, a funkish and fun disco band. He has also started his new (completely legal) mushroom business, and he very much wants to talk to you about it.
Bread & Gravy is known to put on a high energy show, full of emotion, and one never knows what to expect, except for one thing: The Unexpected!"
