In a warming world, lots of things are changing. One of those is the occurrence of wildfires and, of course, smoke. A record-low snowpack across Washington in 2026 portends a widespread wildfire season coming up. What do you need to know about smoke? What is smoke anyway - and how can you protect against its harmful effects?
Dr. Dan Jaffe is a professor in UW Bothell's School of STEM and has taught the subject of environmental chemistry and air pollution for nearly 30 years. Dr. Jaffe will discuss recent research to explain why we are getting more smoke than ever, what smoke is composed of, its health impact, and how to protect ourselves and keep it out of our homes.
