About Randy Norris & Jeff Nicely

Randy Norris & Jeff Nicely

Randy Norris & Jeff Nicely are an eclectic acoustic blues duo, with Randy on guitars and vocals and Jeff on harmonicas, each with roughly forty years of performance experience. Randy has a charismatic voice and intense, journeyman approach to his instrument, while Jeff displays a deep rhythmic and soulful presence on the harp. Both players are versatile in their mastery of a variety of musical styles, with rhythm ‘n blues as their mutual base during their more than twenty years of making music together.

Performing as a duo since 2008, Randy Norris & Jeff Nicely represented the Washington Blues Society at the 2012 and 2013 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, earning Semi-Finalist status both years. More recently, they were awarded the 2017 WBS Best of the Blues Award for Solo/Duo Blues Act after six consecutive nominations in that category. Prior to their time together as a duo, Randy and Jeff fronted the band Blues Therapy, performing regularly around the Puget Sound and releasing two well-received independent recordings, "Doctor's Orders!" and "Second Opinion".

Randy has spent much of his life playing music on the road. He performed as a member of Jack Mack and the Heart Attack and had a stint with The Boxtops during his ten years in LA doing sessions and sideman work. In recent years, he's played in numerous bands in the Northwest, including Randy Norris & The Full Degree, Emerald City Throwdown, The Randy Oxford Band, Big Road Blues, and the Morgan-Norris Band, among others, and he's been a frequent jam host around the region.

Jeff has also performed with many great musicians during his harmonica travels. Locally, he and Sean Denton were the foundation of Blues Playground, which emerged from a year-long house-band gig in Arlington in 2009. Jeff's musical journey has included several folk music projects as well, both on stage and in the recording studio. Jeff was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame with his brothers in their Ohio hometown in 2010, where they've headlined an annual rock ‘n blues benefit concert every year since.

With interplay that blends soul, rock, New Orleans rhythm and delta blues, the duo of Randy Norris & Jeff Nicely perform by the credo: "If there's no feeling, you're just wasting your breath".
