About Hotel Oregon

Walking guide

The historic 1905 Hotel Oregon is set on the picture-perfect main street of the small town of McMinnville in Oregon’s famed Willamette Valley Wine Country, with numerous tasting rooms just a short walk away. Once home to a soda fountain, beauty parlor and bus depot, this charming structure now comprises 38 guestrooms, each with a historical namesake.

On the main floor, the classic pub serves a hearty breakfast, lunch or dinner, and the adjacent Paragon Lounge harkens back to old-time hotel lobbies, though opulence has been replaced by cozy details, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a handcrafted cocktail.

From here, head up to the rooftop or down to the cellar to find bars, each with a style of its own. At the legendary Rooftop Bar, scan the horizon for a glimpse of distant mountains and linger over wine and a meal. After such a heady experience, you’ll be ready to take yourself back to earth in the Cellar Bar, a place reminiscent of Prohibition Era speakeasies.

Wherever you pause, be sure to consult our wine list to inspire day trips through wine country. Hotel Oregon is the place to come for an overnight stay near the vineyards, a stopover on the way to the coast, or just plain Oregon-style fun and adventure.

Hotel Oregon allows pets on the side patios and in hotel rooms for a fee; call for availability.

History

A hundred years of comfort

On McMinnville's charming, old main street, Hotel Oregon strikes an inviting pose – as it has since 1905. With more than a century of history under its belt, the Hotel has plenty of stories to tell. The building has welcomed many thousands at various times during its rich history to enjoy its restaurant, lounge, dance spot, bus depot, Western Union office, beauty parlor, soda fountain, and lodging.

McMenamins has created a living history, by naming the rooms after the colorful and worthy cast of characters who shaped this exceptional place.

The 1950s were a particularly "musical" time for the hotel, as reflected in a couple of the rooms you may book today. Room 306 pays respect to Heck Harper, whose country-and-western band played the Hotel's lounge several times during that decade. Meanwhile, the room we call "Wayne the Singing Chef," room 401, is dubbed so after the Hotel Oregon's kitchen wizard, who would often remove his apron to pick up the microphone to entertain in the lounge.

For those who like to go back even further in history, one room is named after the Amazing Louis la Bonte, a French-Canadian fur trapper who settled near McMinnville in 1830.

As you enjoy the many period appointments and fixtures at the hotel, as well as the historic photographs that grace the walls, you'll see why, for a century, the hotel has been considered a particularly warm and comfortable place to get away – and relax!
