About The Ink of Time: The Intersection of History and Comics

The Ink of Time: The Intersection of History and Comics

Discover how history is told through the prism of comic books. From comics based entirely on historic events like Age of Bronze and Maus to popular DC and Marvel titles like Superman and Captain America, Mark Russell presents how comic books and graphic novels have dealt with history as it happens and in the aftermath of world events.

Mark Russell is Vice Chair of the Northwest Museum of Cartoon Arts in Portland and an Eisner, GLAAD, and Ringo award-winning comic book writer who has written Superman, Batman, and Fantastic Four titles, as well as many others.

These events are open to everyone interested in Pacific Northwest history, and beyond! Often co-sponsored by local or state historical and civic organizations, we bring you experts, scholars, first-person experiencers, historians and documentaries expounding on topics from indigenous history to the birth of Portland, early explorers to hop growing, and on and on! It's like being back in the classroom - except this time you get to settle into comfortable seats and enjoy a drink or two with dinner while you listen and learn.
