About The New Life of Donated Tissue

The New Life of Donated Tissue

You likely know about the importance of organ donation, but were you aware of the life that comes from donated tissue such as skin, bone, tendon, or nerves? When a tissue donor has passed, the gift of their donation has the power to transform grief into new hope by helping a living person heal from extensive trauma, burns, and injury. Donated tissue can act as bandages, bridges, and scaffolds to help restore and repair the human body without the use of extensive inorganic implants such as metal. The new life tissue brings is only possible through the selfless gift of donors and their families. In this talk, Hayley Resk will illustrate the biological mechanisms behind medical healing with the use of donated tissue, as well giving an overview of the different injuries that tissue can repair.

About the Speaker

Hayley Resk is the Community Outreach Coordinator at Solvita Portland, the tissue bank of Oregon and SW Washington. After working as a recovery coordinator for several years, Hayley has made a career out of her passion: educating people about the importance of tissue donation. As a two-time liver transplant recipient herself, Hayley has first-hand experience from both sides of donation. She sees her work as a way to give back to her community and pay her own gifts forward.
