About Awareness of Human Trafficking

Awareness of Human Trafficking

Human Trafficking and the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) happens every day in Central Oregon. It may not be what you think. You might encounter people who are being exploited or are at high risk of exploitation every single day – where you work, shop, socialize, or even in your own neighborhood. Come learn what to look for, what to listen for … and what you can do to help.

The Deschutes County Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) Response Team invites you to join us for this special evening in honor of Human Trafficking Awareness Month to learn about what you can do to help prevent and stop this modern form of slavery.

Learn about your local Response Team, the trafficking we see in Central Oregon, who is at risk, how to identify someone who is being exploited or at risk, and what you can do if you see something or have concerns. You can be a part of the solution!

Erin Kevin, Victim Specialist, FBI -- Presenter and Moderator

Sara Perkins, Survivor Leader -- Presenter

Panel Presenters: Matthew Nelson, Deputy District Attorney, Deschutes County; Mel Parker, Human Trafficking Project Manager, J Bar J Youth Services; Sara Perkins, Survivor Leader; and Joshua Spano, Detective, Bend Police Department.

This event is FREE but seating is limited and registration is required.

This event is brought to you by the Deschutes County CSEC Response Team. The Response Team is a collaboration of agencies working together to coordinate and leverage local resources to provide a comprehensive approach to child sex trafficking and services to victims and survivors. The Response Team works to: identify and recover victims of sex trafficking; proactively investigate, identify, apprehend and prosecute those engaged in sex trafficking; and provide trauma-informed, victim-centered services to restore those impacted by child sexual exploitation.

Thank you to McMenamins Old St. Francis for sponsoring this event. Attendees are highly encouraged to purchase food and beverages at the event to support the sponsorship of the room and staff for the evening – Thank you.
