Do you remember the thrill of your first rollercoaster ride? When it opened in 1928, Jantzen Beach was the nation's largest amusement park. Known colloquially as "The Coney Island of the West," the park operated for 42 years before closing on Labor Day in 1970. From the short lived Pixieland to the enduring Oaks Park and more, Oregon's amusement parks have a long and colorful history. Darrell Jabin, "Oregon's Traveling Historian" has been researching and sharing unique local history since 2009. Darrell's award-winning videos have a growing audience on social media, and he is a prolific history speaker. His presentation on Oregon's amusement parks, carnival rides, and carousel design and construction is informed by interviews from firsthand experiencers and their cherished memories of these beloved parks.
