Step inside and have a gander up, waaaaay up — this hidden room behind the Bagdad Theater's screen stretches an incredible seven stories from floor to ceiling! From 1930s vaudeville behind-the-scenes area to 1970s arthouse and hippie hangout, this place has a great history. We renovated it from top to bottom to become Hawthorne's most happening spot to play a round or two of 8-ball, relax before or after a movie or just stop by for a beer. And don't miss the huge 20-by-20-foot mural depicting the various tales, characters and memories from the Bagdad since its opening in 1927, painted by our own McMenamins artists. Back Stage Bar allows pets at our sidewalk seating only. This hidden room behind the Bagdad Theater's screen stretches an incredible seven stories from floor to ceiling! But before your eyes wander way up, have a look at the 130-year-old cherrywood bar, which was salvaged from downtown Portland’s iconic Lotus Cardroom upon its closing in 2016. After an illustrious time spent at the Lotus, we claimed it as our own, replacing the bar in Back Stage in October 2017. The bar removed from Back Stage is likely to resurface in a future McMenamins project.
