Casey Doherty

I am a Seattle-based, self-taught artist with a background in visual communication design. My art is influenced by the Roman Catholic art that I grew up with in South Carolina, the Mexican religious folk art that I discovered as an adult and the striking images in comics such as Spiderman and Batman. My work tends to focus on the uncanny – figures that are seemingly familiar but can have an off-putting quality for the viewer. I am intrigued by the absurd nature of pop culture and its icons, the random whimsy of everyday life and the real - life events that sneak into my dreams.
