About Claire Phillips: The Manila Mata Hari

Claire Phillips: The Manila Mata Hari

Free-spirited Portland actress Claire Phillips became a spy and resistance leader in the occupied Philippines during World War II, gathering intelligence, saving American prisoners of war and enduring imprisonment and torture by the enemy.

Historian Sig Unander details Phillips's remarkable story, including how she received the Medal of Freedom and how her life became a Hollywood movie.

Sig Unander is a writer, historian, and public speaker from Portland, Oregon. He began his career in broadcast journalism in New Mexico, Minnesota and Georgia. He also worked in Spanish-language media as an editor, historian and documentarian.  Sig is currently writing a narrative nonfiction book about Claire Phillips.
