Machetres
ma-che-tres
(A slang term for a machete tied to G3 rifle) was founded by Lilo González and
Cristian Gajardo. They were just teenagers when they opened Fugazi's 10th
anniversary show in 1997, a fundraiser for the Latin American Youth Center in
Washington DC. They quickly made their way in the DC punk scene supporting
grassroots organizations, social justice and Latinx youth. Bassist Paul
González joined in 2003. In 2018 Lilo and Paul relocated to LA adding drummer
Ryan Bukstein until the pandemic sent each member to a different state. In
2023, Machetres reunited to play a run of shows on the east coast with Cristian
and west coast with Ryan.
In
2025 Machetres is hitting the road again in the west, this time with both
drummers joining for all shows. Performing original music in both Spanish and
English, Machetres music deals with the complex experience of refugees, while
layering smoking guitar solos and powerful basslines.
