late night drive home

late night drive home

late night drive home is a 4-person indie rock band from El Paso, TX. Consisting of lead singer Andre Portillo, guitarist Juan "Ockz" Vargas, bassist Freddy Baca & drummer Brian Dolan, late night drive home is on a mission to bring a new sound to the indie rock genre. Their inspirations come from a wide range of rock bands including: Wallows, The Strokes, Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys, Car Seat Headrest, and Twenty One Pilots.

Formed in 2019 by Andre and Juan, late night drive home started as a 2 person project, with a concentration on lo-fi aesthetic rock, they later transitioned to the indie rock genre in 2021 with melodic guitar synth-like leads. Take a journey with this youthful, indie band as they evolve their sound and find new ways of approaching the indie rock genre.

benches is a Southern California band consisting of Anson Kelley (vocals/guitar), Ethan Bowers (drums), Evan Ojeda (lead guitar), and Charlie Baird (bass). The band took on many forms in the past, but officially solidified its lineup as of January 2022.

Following the success of their 2020 single, "Monodrama", benches set out to work on a new and evolved sound with Grammy-nominated producer, Martin Cooke. With the release of "Violent" in June, benches have begun to put their own modern twist on the noisy guitar-driven nostalgia of the 2000's. The band has an obsession with defining the sound of bittersweet; a blend of happy and sad, wrapped up into infectiously catchy indie rock. benches is a band born of naivete, the excitement and worries that come with being young. Anson Kelley has a habit of writing lyrical themes rooted in the ignorance of youth. The band's most recent release, "LA Friends" lyrically explores thoughts and frustrations on the commonality of nepotism within the music industry, accompanied by electrifying guitar melodies and Killers-esque synth tracks imbued with benches own brand of faux-nostalgia.

The band have played with notable acts such as Foster The People, Dave Keuning (The Killers) and Louis XIV, and previously toured the US with Ultra Q, I Don't Know How But They Found Me and The Red Pears.

About Mission Theater

Experience a slice of Portland history. What is now known simply as “the Mission” was originally home to the Swedish Mission Covenant congregation in the early 20th century, and despite its staid, buttoned up appearance, this place now hosts live music, video dance nights and special events on select nights each month.

The location that serves as one of McMenamins favorite neighborhood theater pubs was the locus of great spiritual zeal beginning in the 1890s. That's when the Swedish Evangelical Mission established its church here....

From a church to a theater-pub to event space, the Mission's history ain't exactly saintly. Click here for more info!
