About Seaside Tryst

Seaside Tryst

Seaside Tryst is a post-punk dance band from the pacific northwest. Their songs are inspired by lead songwriter Avery Kanode's time growing up in Appalachia and love for his queer and trans community. As a child in Virginia, Kanode was inundated with live bluegrass twang and traveling southern Baptist bands on revival tours. His only escape from church music was through his sisters dance competitions and pageants. In 2011 Kanode made his way to Seattle and got into the music scene DJing queer dance parties. He met keyboardist and vocalist Pants Champagne at a house show in 2013 where they discovered their mutual obsession with boys in eyeliner and new wave music. The band is grounded by the marching band precision of drummer Jesse Peoples and driving basslines from Ryan Pangilinan. Seaside Tryst is a staple in the NW queer electronic underground. Their shows have the intimacy of a sweaty basement dance party and Kanode ties it all together with his gay Springsteen swagger.
