with gypsy jazz group Hot Club Sandwich; the western swing outfit Red Brown
& the Tune Stranglers; the modern jazz ensemble The Greta Jane Quartet and
countless appearances on stage and in the studio with many of the finest
musicians the region has to offer including Pearl Django; Del Ray; Dan Tyak;
Eric Stern; Paul Anastasio; Paul Mehling; and many
At age 11 James entered his first fiddle contest. At age 13 he began
learning Texas Style fiddling from the legendary Benny Thomasson, while keeping
within earshot of Swing and Jazz and the music of Bob Wills, Stephane
Grappelli, and Joe Venuti.
In 2014 James’ won first place at both the National Swing Fiddle
Championship at Weiser ID and the first annual Bob Wills Fiddle Contest in
Greenville, TX a stellar accomplishment.
