35 years, the Richards Photography Studio captured iconic images of the South
Sound’s events, people, places, and industries, creating a vast and invaluable
album of Tacoma history. Historian and preservationist Michael Sullivan will
introduce audiences to the stories behind a portion of the yet-to-be-seen
800,000 images while revealing an incredible amount of historic material.
Library director Kate Larsen will share how the community can support efforts
to expand and sustain this collection.
About the Speaker:
Michael Sullivan is a Pacific Northwest historian, writer, teacher
and storyteller. He is the writer of Tacoma’s premier local history blog: https://tacomahistory.live./
And he taught a course on the History of Tacoma at the University
of Washington Tacoma for more than 20 years. Most recently Sullivan wrote the
introduction for the new edition of Murray Morgan’s epic book Puget’s Sound,
