Edgefield BreweryTo celebrate the 2nd Birthday of our 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop, we've selected something funky and unique from Edgefield's Barrel Program. The result is a dark, tart and fruity Stout that was aged in Port barrels for eight months on tart cherries. Edgefield BreweryThis delicious Barleywine went into Hogshead Whiskey barrels last year, and those barrels have sat undisturbed ever since. This beer, already a formidable ale in its own right, has in that full year matured into a flavorful, complex behemoth and a true example of a classic, barrel-aged English Barleywine. It offers flavors of toffee, caramel, and a warming alcohol character that's been rounded and accentuated by notes of raisin, vanilla, and oak from its year of aging.Malts: Maris Otter, 2-Row Pale, Munich, Crystal 40, Rolled OatsHops: Nugget, Ultra, Perle, GoldingOG: 1.100 TG: 1.017 ABV: 11.5 IBU: 52 SRM: 15
Crystal BreweryThe song "Cold Old Fire" by Dublin folk band Lankum, inspired this dark concoction. It's meant to evoke grey days in Dublin and memories of good times and bad spent by a fire, whose flame, like a glass of tasty, strong beer, inevitably will disappear. We sought out flavors to mimic the atmosphere of sitting around the "dying embers of a cold, old fire." Jasmine Pearl's Lapsang Souchong adds aromas and flavors of pine smoke, while organic jalapeno peppers provide the slight heat. Peppermint leaves represent the last note on the palette, signifying the chill that sneaks up like a thief around such a scene.
