We have one of the last three kegs of the Lord of Misrule and we'll tap it at this time, along with the Prince of Fools Breakfast Stout -- the base beer we're barrel-aging at Edgefield Brewery to make the next Lord of Misrule. Come on by; these won't last long. *Because of limited availability we will not be offering the Lord of Misrule 2016 to-go until Saturday, June 17.
Appointing a Lord of Misrule, the official in charge of Christmas revelries and the Feast of Fools, is a holiday-time peasant tradition that can be traced back to Roman times. A new lord is elected every year so must a new beer be brewed! This Imperial Stout, styled after Irish coffee, was brewed with lactose, dark sugar, cocoa nibs, aged in whiskey barrels eight months and finished with vanilla beans and cold-brew coffee.Special Techniques: Barrel-AgedSpecial Ingredients: Lactose, Dark Sugar, Cocoa Nibs, Vanilla Bean, Cold Brew CoffeeMalts: Optic, Flaked Barley, Kilned Coffee, Brown, Chocolate Malt, RoastHops: Chinook, GoldingOG: 1.092 TG: 1.022 ABV: 9.5 IBU: 30 SRM: 33
(High Gravity)Prince of Fools is an Imperial Breakfast Stout brewed with 165 pounds of maple syrup, lots of Rolled Oats and Lactose for body, and Kilned Coffee Malt for a delicious underlying flavor. This beer is dark, robust and super smooth. Prince of Fools is the base beer for our 2017 Holiday Ale Fest barrel-aging project, which means you should keep an eye out for it in December when the Prince becomes the Lord of Misrule.Special Ingredients: Maple Syrup, LactoseMalts: ESB, Pale, Rolled Oats, 2-Row, Brown, Crystal Rye, Coffee MaltHops: Chinook, US GoldingOG: 1.093 TG: 1.028 ABV: 8.38 IBU: 17 SRM: 37
