About The Lightweight Champs
The Lightweight Champs were born in 2015 when Guitarist Ryan Garrette, Drummer Angie Pancho, and Bassist Justin Stiles started annoying their neighbors by practicing Weezer covers both loudly and poorly in Ryan's living room. The Tacoma-based group soon began writing their own tunes and gigging as much as possible, gaining a loyal following of friends and other bands. They released their first EP, Semi-Pro, in 2016 and their first album, Contenders in 2018, both recorded at Mountain House Studios in Tacoma. The champs followed this up with a small regional tour and a full West-Coast tour. A year later, the Champs sold all their belongings and moved into a van, embarking on a tour to the other side of the country. After about 3 months on the road playing small venues, basements, and the occasional barn, the van broke down, the world shut down, and the band went on hiatus as Justin and Ryan pursued college degrees. Now, five years and three degrees later the Champs planned to re-unite to re-connect with each other and the scene they love. But with Ryan becoming a father around the same time, Angie and Justin will be uniting with members of their new bands to perform a supergroup tribute to the Champs: RIP LWC. Join them as they throw one last party and revel in the nostalgia and sing their hopeless power-pop tunes about always losing with a smile on your face.
