Sam Nicholson

Sam Nicholson

Born and raised in Los Angeles and now based in Nashville, 24-year-old Sam Nicholson crafts songs that capture the rush of youth, the ache of nostalgia, and the beauty of being alive. His music lives at the intersection of indie folk and anthemic pop, drawing sonic inspiration from artists like Vance Joy, Noah Kahan, and Coldplay. With themes of adventure, love, and self-discovery woven throughout his lyrics, Sam's songs feel like the soundtrack to a coming-of-age film - where falling in love, getting your heart broken, and finding your way are all part of life's emotional adventure. His warm, cinematic sound and heartfelt writing create moments that are both deeply personal and universally relatable. A graduate of USC's Thornton School of Music, Sam is a multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, piano, and bass, as well as a self-taught songwriter and producer. Through his artistry, Sam aims to create timeless, euphoric anthems that serve as the soundtrack to people's lives - music that inspires listeners to feel deeply, love boldly, and live like every moment matters.

BluePine

BluePine

BluePine is an Americana/Alt-Country Rock band out of Portland, OR. Formed in the Summer of 2021 by founding members Scott Taylor (Songwriter, Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Matt Pracht (Drums) and John Hogan (Electric guitar), BluePine's original music is grounded in traditional Americana Rock, with elements of Alt-Country, Indie Rock and Roots Rock thrown into the mix. Scott, Matt and John all shared a love for live music, having met years ago when their previous bands Coldwater (John & Scott) and Drunk on Pines (Matt) shared the same bill in various Portland pubs. Post-Covid, they each found themselves missing the soul-nurturing process of creating original music. And after a chance encounter at a local show, the roots for what would become BluePine quickly took hold.

In the spring of 2023 BluePine added Portland, OR native Renato Rodriguez on electric bass. Renato had recently returned to Portland after spending 10 years cutting his teeth on the rock stages of San Diego, CA. During that time, he developed a deep groove nurtured in the dulcette tones of the Jefferson Airplane and the Jerry Garcia Band, while honing his chops chasing chart-busting jam bands like Zero, Garaj Mahal, and KVHW up and down the west coast.

In the winter of 2024, BluePine added vocalist Alicia Lewis to round out the group. Alicia's love of harmonies brought a warm tonality to the BluePine sound. Her passion for music began as a toddler, sitting on the piano bench with her grandfather, a jazz pianist. She developed an ear for unique harmonies singing in a variety of choirs and small groups, before finding her way to the rock stage after a life transition. Since then, Alicia has collaborated with a number of Portland artists and bands, and loves sharing her infectious musical fire.

Bands that have served as inspiration for BluePine include Drive-By Truckers. Whiskeytown, Uncle Tupelo, Richmond Fontaine, The Pixies and hundreds of other Indie/Alternative bands that they grew up with going back to the late 80s/early 90s.

Indie-Folk

Kevin Lee Florence

From a young age, Kevin Lee Florence was always singing - first in church, and then inadvertently around the house. It wasn't until his early twenties, however, that Florence picked up the guitar and immersed himself in Neil Young, Damien Jurado, Paul Simon, and a host of other folk legends, despite being raised in an community that disparaged folk music. He found inspiration in his father's vinyl collection and an inborn penchant for writing poetry, and gradually set about turning his passion into something viable.

Given, Kevin Lee Florence's debut album, represents the cream of the crop from his personally penned songs, along with two of Florence's favorite covers: Paul Simon's "Peace Like a River" and Damien Jurado's "Ohio." These gentle nods to two of his biggest influences help flesh out the simple, nine track record. Flecked with folk influences, finger-picked guitar lines and distinctive harmonies provided by his sister Kelly Florence, Given falls somewhere between Sam Beam's hushed, vivid folk and Simon's own conversational, quirky lyrical genius. The slow-burning hope of "Could Today be the Day" falls into a groove, and contrasts with harmony fanfare and drama on album closer "Kindness." For the more traditional minded, "Shining Shining" is pure pastoral bliss, with bright piano accents and lush harmonies. Through it all, Florence's understated, warm voice carries the record, wrapping you like a warm blanket on an autumn evening.
