DeadSet

DeadSet started as a pick up band of players who all share a love for Grateful Dead music. Most of the boys play in other bands, but the center of the Venn diagram of this project is their collective love of playing Dead tunes together. Singer and guitarist Thomas McElroy spent his teenage years following the Grateful Dead up one side of the country and down the other. He now also fronts his original music band the Dreamland Farmers. Bassist Brian Straus also lays down the groove in Nebula Chef. Guitarist Jimbo Sapp hosts Portland's beloved weekly open mic Ron and Jimbo's Big Ass Jam, and was the one who brought this crew together by suggesting they all do a set of Dead tunes together at the Big Ass Jam. Keyboardist Taylor Adams runs lighting for local music venues and plays keys for Silverhill. Guitarist Stefan Henry-Biskup is a gifted graphics designer and plays drums in the punk band Snarla. When Percussionist Keith Hatfeild is not playing skins he loves riding his Harley around the Western US. Bubby Sherwood sees Phish shows every chance he gets and brings his dazzling drumming to Dead Set Crew as well as Kavorka Nova.

Head downstairs at the Crystal Hotel to hang out in this venue named for Al Winter, Portland's 1940's gambling overlord. Enjoy a craft libation in this intimate, speakeasy-style space where live music and comedy fill the air.
