About Summer of the Shark Series
Hosted by the Big Fish Lab at Oregon State University, the
Summer of the Shark series was designed to bring sharks and shark science to
communities throughout Oregon. Come meet Oregon's shark scientists, learn about
how they conduct work on local species and beyond, test your knowledge about
the predators along our shoreline and get answers to all your burning shark
questions!
Before the presentation, join us for a meet and greet with
the scientists from the Big Fish Lab, and stick around after for a Q&A.
There will be food, drinks, trivia, merchandise for sale and good vibes all
around. Plus, a portion of proceeds will go to directly supporting research and
students at the Big Fish Lab.
About OSU's Big Fish Lab
Haven't heard of the Big Fish Lab? We are a research group
located in Newport, at OSU's Hatfield Marine Science Center. Though we were
originally established to fill a gap in our understanding of sharks in Oregon
waters, our work also takes us globally - to Ireland, the Maldives, Mexico,
South Africa, and more. Our scientists study a variety of topics, from shark
moms to shark diet to learning about how sharks will respond to climate change
and even how frequently sharks eat plastic. Our work has been featured on both
local news and national and international television, including Discovery
Channel, National Geographic, and BBC. To learn more about
us, check us out here and
follow us on social media.
