About Butterfly Breakdown
Anastasia Gilliam and Zay Harrison joined forces in 2011 in Portland, OR.
They perform regularly in Seattle, WA and within the Rose City at venues like Portland's Saturday Market, The Hawthorne Theater, Eddie's Trackside and Pints Brewery as well as private parties and events for various charities.
The two have woven their influences together ranging from Blues artists Albert King to Bonnie Raitt with Rock inspirations from the likes of Janis Joplin, Led Zepplin, Heart and Pearl Jam mixed with a soulful flair from singers like Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Nina Simone. Their shows are primarily made up of original music but if the need arises or the venue requests, they have a vast repertoire of cover tunes from Country, R&B, Pop, Rock and Blues.
They have a natural ability for storytelling and strike a sophisticated balance in their craft as song-smiths with intellect and whimsy through songs that speak of their experience and adventures. Butterfly Breakdown cultivates a luscious sound of opulent vocal harmonies layered with acoustic guitar and percussion that fills a stage with a compelling presence. The two are currently in the studio composing songs for their latest CD due out in the spring of 2013.
In addition to composing and performing together, this dynamic duo are involved with The Media Program of Portland, an educational group designed to discover, train, educate and develop the next generation of artists, filmakers and musicians.
