About "Bring Out Your Dead! An Illustrated History of Plague"

April 1 through 7 is national Public Health Week and the Deschutes County Health Services Department aims to share new local health facts with residents through a unique event on April Fool’s Day! The event will especially feature a unique talk about the history and current day facts about the Black Plague.

The plague presentation will begin after a welcome from the Des Chutes Historical Museum, and an interesting and historical health comparison talk by the County’s Health Services Department.

"Bring Out Your Dead! An Illustrated History of Plague", a free presentation by COCC Professor Mark Eberle, will be the highlight of National Public Health Week in Deschutes County. During his macabre presentation, Professor Eberle will describe the historical and medical aspects of a dreaded disease, with works of art that he photographed in Europe, including clips taken from popular movies. The presentation includes a surprising amount of humor for such a grim topic and sheds light on surprising connections between historical plague and the disease in our modern world.

Dr. Eberle has taught at COCC for more than 20 years. His doctorate in medical entomology was earned at the University of California-Davis campus
