About Cody Beebe and The Crooks

Content

Bound by their collective roots in Central Washington and Washington State University, Cody Beebe & The Crooks began performing together in February of 2009 in Seattle, WA.  The band spent the following subsequent three years exploring music together and discovering what CBC was to become. The band calls it Roots Rock; some radio gurus have dubbed it Progressive Americana, and others have said “Steve Earle meets Pink Floyd.”  Musically, strong elements of gritty blues, classic rock, country, and funk are obvious.  More subtle are the splashes of jazz, R&B, and metal.  Sometimes soaring above, sometimes smoothly crooning, sometimes twanging, and always deeply emotionally invested, their melodies and lyrics soulfully unite the sound.  If their genre can’t be easily named, that says nothing of its approachability and timelessness.

Since the release of their debut album, "Friends of the Old Mill," Cody Beebe & The Crooks have been touring vigorously and have played a number festivals and fairs from Washington to New York.  Their single “Waiting on You” rose to an amazing #64 nationally (FMQB - Triple A) and they were one of only two self released and independently managed acts in the top 200 on the chart at the time.  They have shared the stage with the likes of Buddy Guy, Stevie Nicks, Iron and Wine, Jimmie Vaughan, K.D. Lang, Augustana, Josh Turner, Little River Band, Jason Reeves, Randy Rogers Band, Allen Stone, Andy Griggs, Rooney, Afroman, Ari Hest, Drew Davis Band, This Providence, Tonic, The Clumsy Lovers, Flowmotion, and Elephant Revival.

About Dodgy Mountain Men

Content

The Dodgy Mountain Men sling a home-brewed Montana stompgrass that goes down smooth but packs a bite, mixing the rhythms of bluegrass, the soul of the blues and the energy of rock 'n' roll with a plethora of other musical traditions to create a diverse electro acoustic experience. The group's genre-bending experimentation and passion for American roots traditions weave together to emphasize their lyrical storytelling, creating a musical frontier rife with empty mason jars, outlaws, gypsy women and cold Montana storms. Add original voices, unique instrumentation, and live performances that build to a fever pitch, and you've got a concoction that will make moonshiners proud and compel dancers to wear out the soles of their shoes.

Dodgy Mountain Men released their debut album, "Stronger than Death," in the spring of 2012 and have played shows across the country in support of the album. Over the last two years they have played premium slots at festivals including the John Hartford Memorial Festival (IN), Spring Blossom (PA), Love Your Mother Earth Festival (MT) and River City Roots (MT), to name a few. They have also had the pleasure of sharing more intimate stages with acts such as The Devil Makes Three, Greensky Bluegrass, Scott Biram, Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons, Whitewater Ramble, Dead Winter Carpenters, Fruition, Hillstomp, and many more. DMM intend to follow their music wherever it takes them, like the rhythm and roar of a freight train crisscrossing the tapestry of the Great American West.

About Jack Dwyer & Tim Connell

Jack Dwyer & Tim Connell,

Mad Professors of the Mandolin

Hypnotic, Trans-Global Ear Candy for Two Mandolins

Portland-based mandolinists and Lewis and Clark College music professors Jack Dwyer and Tim Connell come together to produce a show of lively acoustic groove music drawn from global folk traditions. Their two mandolins become one as they create a stunning soundscape of harmony and counterpoint.

Both Dwyer and Connell are celebrated modern masters of the mandolin, virtuoso players and highly energetic performers who delight the audience with their well-honed arrangements and flights of solo and ensemble improvisation.  Performing hypnotic mandolin duets from dance music traditions around the world, Jack and Tim take us on a dizzying tour from Ireland to Brazil, from Zimbabwe to Greece, deep into Appalachian Mountain country, before landing feet-first in an Eastern European Jewish shtetl.

Their freshly-released debut album (Mando Planet, 2013) is an ode to acoustic folk music, rhythm, and the mandolin. Intimate, raw and energetic, the songs on this release simultaneously honor and push the boundaries of traditional music. But beneath it all is a steady unshakable groove that will have you stomping your feet all the way home.

Advance Praise for Mandolandia:

"Jack Dwyer and Tim Connell have accomplished something special with this mandolin duo recording. They've made a studio recording that sounds like a live performance, where every tune is delivered with spontaneity, drive, passion, and obvious joy.

Dwyer and Connell effortlessly trade the lead back and forth between their mandolins as if they are finishing each other's thoughts, in much the same way as the great Louvin Brothers did with their singing. The mix of tunes, including Celtic, African, Jewish, Brazilian, and even an original song by Dwyer, are a reflection of the varied backgrounds and interests of these two up-and-coming mandolinists, but above all, this recording is a love letter to the acoustic music traditions of the world. You can't ask for a better album than this." --Hermon Joyner, Mandolin Magazine

"The mandolin has seen a burst of creativity and wonderful new ideas these past 5 -10 years.  It's like our little instrument is having it's own (not so quiet) Renaissance while the world spins out of control towards the next "app" and folks rush about trying to find solace. Let this quiet meek instrument show us a way, right?

Tim and Jack have gathered their handsome talents, creative energy and wide musical tastes and honed it all into a collection of clear and concise gems in these mando duets. Whether they are playing an Irish Jig, a Brazilian Choro or improvising freely on one of their original tunes, the music always has focus and authenticity, never pushing their instruments too far or trying to be bigger than life. Just letting the instruments speak for themselves through these fine musicians. Groove meets melody, harmony and energy. What else is music?"  --Mike Marshall, Wuppertal, Germany

"Tim and Jack have put together an extraordinary collection of music with everything a listener can ask for: a wide variety of musical genres the blend together seamlessly, clever arrangements, spectacular playing, and tone and taste in spades. This is how mandolins should be played!  It's a terrific recording that should do well." --Scott Tichenor, Mandolin Cafe

About Jack and Tim:

Tim and Jack have performed on stage at the Wintergrass Bluegrass festival, the Alaska City Arts Folk Festival in Anchorage and at David Grisman and Mike Marshall's Mandolin Symposium in Santa Cruz.

Jack has recently cut a wide swath up and down the West coast, touring with bluegrass quintet the Blackberry Bushes. Tim is also known to audiences from his work with Mike Marshall and Radim Zenkl in the Ger Mandolin Orchestra and from his performances with Brazilian choro group Rio Con Brio and Santa Cruz Guitars Signature Artist, Eric Skye.

Both artists are currently on the Music faculty at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, teaching mandolin.

About Redwood Son

Content

Whether or not the name and music of Redwood Son has yet hit the big radar, this year's "Best New Artist" of the Portland Music Awards is on the rise. Their 20 Song double-disc debut, The Lion's Inside, boasts a dynamic versatility that crosses the borders of their West Coast Americana with hook-laden roots-rock and alt.country, while maintaining an authentic Universal "Pop" vibe.

Led by singer-songwriter Josh Malm, Redwood Son's long anticipated release of The Lion's Inside signifies a culmination of Malm's tireless persistence as a performer and live music presenter throughout the Pacific Northwest since 2005. Though making an initial mark under his previous moniker J*Malem, he birthed the concept of Redwood Son in 2009 searching for an honest sound representative of his childhood in the California Redwoods. The first incarnation of the band was making way towards this very album while establishing a local presence when an unexpected catastrophe struck. On November 4th, 2009 Redwood Son's original drummer and Malm's long-time friend Kipp Crawford was killed in a tragic event that remains partly unsolved. Though Redwood Son experienced a state of dismantle with uncertain destiny, Malm did not lose sight of their shared vision alongside the standing support of the group's original guitarist Chance Hayden. The project was resurrected in the spring of 2010 to nobly move forward, recording The Lion's Inside in Crawford's honor along with an unreleased dedication track titled "Because of You".

The rawness of Redwood Son's beginning is nostalgically captured on Disc One: Summer of '77, focused on the band's sound as a unit along with guest instrumentalists who compliment Malm's friendly lead vocals. Known for bringing the right guys together, trusty engineer Rob Stroup fostered Malm's connection to the authentic sounds of roots-rock and alt. country. The disc was then mixed with a warm analog approach by Rian Lewis, bringing the presence of a laid-back summer day to the ears. Less than a mile away, Disc Two: New Beautiful Day was recorded and produced simultaneously by Dean Kattari to beckon the band's mainstream viability. Here the band's core shows an even greater expansiveness shouldering a more lyrically focused sound, with guest vocals on nine of the ten tracks from singers including Gretchen Mitchell and Ray Frazier. Though the two discs stand tall individually, together they represent a full circle of Malm's musical journey thus far. His thoughfully told stories are the focal point throughout, binding his many musical influences into Redwood Son's distinctive brand of West Coast Americana.

About Seth & May

Content

Michigan has, for some time now, been a deep resource for songwriters and roots musicians. Two favorites, Seth Bernard and May Erlewine, well-known to audiences as single acts, have been performing and recording together for almost six years.

Before they teamed up, each paid their dues traveling across the land playing their music and sharing stories with everyone they met. Now they are in constant demand playing festivals all over the country and at venerable folk institutions such as the Ark in Ann Arbor and Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion."

Already seasoned songwriters with five solo records each and two duo albums to their names, Seth and May draw from a deep well of American folk, country, blues and soul music. May Erlewine plays guitar and violin and is a songbird reminiscent of Patsy Cline and Patty Griffin. Her songs have been recorded by artists across the country and sung in schools and places of worship. Samuel Seth Bernard has drawn comparisons to Woody Guthrie and Neil Young as a shape shifting folk rocker, community organizer, and communicator of ideas. They harmonize their voices and instruments beautifully, believing music can bring people together and proving so at every performance.

Like all the best folk musicians, they have the ability to get everyone's attention and still a room. With their band, they can captivate and electrify an audience and ignite a dance floor.

Seth and May's common belief in music to strengthen communities and to be a part of positive change has led to collaborations with numerous schools, farms and non-profit organizations. They partnered with best selling author and famed environemtalist Bill McKibben and contributed songs to the www.350.org movement for Climate Change action. They have also fostered the creation of the Water Festival, a series of events in the Great Lakes region dedicated to music and education about preserving water quality and universal access. The best way to find out what Seth and May are about is to listen to their music, either at www.earthworkmusic.com or www.sethandmay.com.

About Triúr Amadán

Triúr Amadán is an Irish/Celtic Band from Madras, Oregon. The group was formed when Jon Granby, Royce Schlenker and Michael McGinnis decided to start a strumstick band. (A strumstick is a three stringed instrument).  The thought was, "This will be something different." Well, it was different; but it was also very limiting. So, out came the banjos, harmonicas, bass, guitar, concertina, fiddle, bodhrán, and penny whistles and to everyone's delight, the music started flowing. Still wanting to be a little different from most bands in Central Oregon they went with the Irish/Celtic theme. They were soon joined by Kent Wright, a guitarist and Joe Baumann, a recorder player looking for an Irish Band. They were now complete. (For you true Irish Folk a recorder is a penny whistle with extra holes).   Although most of their music is traditional Irish/Celtic the players diverse musical talents allowed them to add a little American Folk, audience participation and bluegrass songs.

Triúr Amadán's rowdy, fun, audience engaging style has built them a strong following who think little of travelling around the state to hear them. They are, as one person put it, "A band that could make a Banshee giggle."  Fun may be the driving force but the quality of music is all important as well. Frank Harte, an Irish singer, once said, "Those in power write the history, while those who suffer write the songs." Whenever we perform Celtic ballads we keep in mind that the words are the things that make them wonderful. The music might be lilting and beautiful but it is the story told that truly entertains. Because of this, our goal is to play our ballads in a manner that keeps the emphasis on the words.

Triúr Amadán's resume includes such diverse venues as Bite of Bend, The High and Dry Bluegrass Festival, Maher's Irish Pub in Lake Oswego, The High Desert Celtic Festival, The St. Andrew's Day Scottish Festival, The Metolius City Bi-Centennial Celebration, The Central Oregon Air Show, Geno's Italian Grill, Great Earth Deli and Natural Food Store and the Desert Inn. Being community minded they have also played benefits for the Mountain View Hospital Foundation, the Children's Learning Center, the Madras Aquatic Center Foundation, Relay for Life, the United Methodist Men's Salmon Feed, St. Patrick's Church Fund- raiser, and the Week of the Young Child Festival.
