Superocean

An Indie Pop Explosion

Superocean

Drawing on an amalgamation of shoegaze, dream pop, and indie rock influences, Portland, Oregon four-piece Superocean has crafted an unmistakably catchy and unique sound. Comparisons run the gamut from the ethereal feel of The Sundays to the melodic hooks of Dr. Dog.

The band had lo-fi beginnings in Portland, starting as a solo project by songwriter and vocalist Cody Myers. A handful of reverby demos he produced in 2012 attracted the talents of Tom Wortman on drums, Eric Wenzel on lead guitar, and Adrian Swindells on bass, and the band coalesced into CASTLES with their first EP in 2016.

What followed was a brief California tour, hitting venues such as Sweetwater Music Hall, and a number of local shows. In 2018, with the addition of scene veteran Jason Oppat on bass, the band rebranded to mark a change in style. Branching out with synth elements and poppier song structures, they were now Superocean.

Building on their years of adventurous, spaced out indie rock, their new self-titled EP featuring the single "Animal Caller" signals a move towards classic song structures and a heightened pop sensibility. The band holed up in a beach house on the Oregon coast for a weekend to record the album, and finished up with overdubs in Oppat's apartment. It launches 4/19/19, topped off with original artwork by local artist Lily Valentine (Pink Gorgon), and a release show on 4/27.
