Introspective Folk

Arran Fagan

A product of the grassroots music movement of Southern Oregon, Medford artist Arran Fagan has spent the greater part of his life pursuing music, working his way into the northwest folk scene by playing countless coffee shops and house shows for college classmates and eventually opening for northwest favorites like HorseFeathers, Kris Orlowski, and Jeffrey Martin. In 2015, Arran recruited fellow University of Portland students Jack Pfeffer and Jonathan Wiley, and the three worked to perfect a sparse, melodic sound influenced by their individual backgrounds. Fueled by introspective lyrics and nostalgic melodies provided by the intimate combination of viola, bass, and acoustic guitar, his music explores themes of loss, growth, and the passage of time with fresh eyes.

The Duke of Norfolk

electronic folk

The Duke of Norfolk

In the summer of 2010, Oklahoma native Adam Howard took on title of the Duke of Norfolk. Heavily inspired by Irish traditional music, bluegrass music, and the London-based folktronic band Tunng, Howard's music aimed from the start to look forward as well as backwards. His first release, The Lazy Sunshine EP (March 2011), drew primarily on bluegrass influences; as he wrote more and recorded more, the modern dripped in.

Interested in electronic music and generally in manipulating audio, Howard moved to Edinburgh in the autumn of 2014 to study sound design at the University of Edinburgh. Through busking and countless pub gigs, he quickly won a loyal support base there. He performed on Scottish television and radio, played for the BBC's at the fringe festival, headlined a sold-out show at one of Edinburgh's top venues, toured around Ireland, Scotland, & continental Europe, and was named an "Artist on the Rise" by Relix Magazine.

After the death of his father in the Autumn of 2015, Howard withdrew for a time to the world of grief. Three years later, he releases the result of his wandering with death & doubt in the form of his second full-length album, Attendre et Espérer (translated 'Wait & Hope').
