Sylvia's Ghost: Album Release Party!

Indie Americana, Shoegaze

Sylvia's Ghost: Album Release Party!

Mixing elements of Alternative, Americana and Shoegaze, Sylvias Ghost has been playing together for over 20 years, through various incarnations and musical ventures in bands such as Floating Pointe, Jesus Presley, Uncle B & Auntie E & J-DOG, Post Impression, The Wayne Gacy Trio, Sweet Juice, and others. Throughout the years they have opened for such national acts as The Daddies, The Revivalists, Pink Martini, Bo Diddley, Everclear, Elliot Smith, Heatmiser, Pond, The Posies, Killing Field, Nero's Rome and hundreds of local acts. They have also performed in more traditional musical organizations like the Portland Opera Co. and Mock's Crest Productions.

Sylvias Ghost, is as shape-shifting as it's phantasmic name suggests, sometimes playing as a acoustic-folksy trio, a four piece guitar heavy band, or a six-piece ensemble complete with strings and other instruments from the past and future. The eclectic nature of Sylvias Ghost music is a component of its parts, drawing on multiple influences that creates a unique sound both familiar yet obscure. The band is comprised of Bill James (vocals and guitar), Jason Mockley (drums, synth), Mike Draper (bass), Ken Westin (guitar), Eve James (vocals and viola) and Sohyun Westin (violin).

"Sylvia's Ghost sacrifice immediacy for artifice, layering dense clouds of sound against vaporous stratospheres of rhythm into a thick, melismatic ether..the Ghosties have developed a hybrid sound comprised of Goth and Techno-Ambient strains as well as Folk and Ethnic elements...They are a rare breed in this neck of the backwoods." - Two Louies Magazine

Wilkinson Blades

Rootsy-pop

Wilkinson Blades

Working the stages and studios in Portland and the greater Northwest over the past two decades, singer/songwriter Steve Wilkinson has cemented his position as one of the region's most honest & consistent voices in rock.

4:00 AM is a richly evocative & layered album, ruminating on past pleasures and loves, but firmly looking toward a bright future. Originally intended as a solo outing, Wilkinson recruited a roster of veteran Portland players along the way to flesh out the tracks and it soon became apparent that they were in for something other. John Beyer (drums), Grant Cumpston (guitar) & John Huckfeldt (bass) provide more than just a backing band. The 11 tracks that make up 4:00 AM ring with a confidence that speaks not only to the seasoning of the players, but to the vision for the record as a whole.

The Blades' second full-length LP has just been completed and will be released later this year.

J. Moses & The Ragged Sunday

Heavy Meddlin' Honky Tonkin'

J. Moses & The Ragged Sunday

J. Moses is the musical alias of Portland-ish native singer-songwriter Jason Morgan.
He's a sleeper. Some might say he's a bit late to the game.

Raised in the hills of Clatskanie, OR his earliest musical exposure consisted mainly of Metal (Heavy and Hair Band courtesy of his older brother) and 70's AM Gold (courtesy of the family station wagon radio and cardboard box of 45's).

Sometime in the waning years of his 30's he made the rare decision to take a mid life stab at being a singer-songwriter. This inevitably led to the often daunting process of "putting a band together". So he took the path of least resistance by recruiting three friends, all of whom were already longtime active Portland musicians.

Enter guitarist Joel Roth (The Low Bones, Daystar), bass guitarist Kip Lindig (WhistlePunk!, Timber County, Barn Burners), and drummer Chris Hutton (RootJack, Hong Kong Banana). Together they make up The Ragged Sunday, which is no accident. Many of their musical themes are rooted in salvation. Deliverance from lost love, broken promises, and the feeling that we are all just hanging on by a thread. Redemption found by embracing our addictions, our fears, and the inherent vice that is our own mortality.
J. Moses and the Ragged Sunday is "rootsy storytelling with a modern classic rock edge". Imagine the music of Crazy Horse, Springsteen, Haggard and The Band getting baptized in a moody Pacific Northwest rainstorm, circa 1992.
