Laryssa Birdseye

Laryssa Birdseye

Portland, Oregon is a city ripe with musicianship, talent and creativity. Despite all the city has to offer, Laryssa Birdseye effortlessly stands out as one of Portland's most captivating musical offerings. Generating new fans at every performance, Laryssa has been gaining steady momentum with no signs of slowing the pace.

Self-described as a folk singer that accidentally began to write pop music, Laryssa uses humor and honesty to entrance her audience. Having struggled with addiction and an eating disorder, Laryssa's songs reflect the turmoil of heartbreak, dependency, regret, and the persistent strive towards healing, making her originals relatable and her hooks infectious. Her soaring vocals are filled with flawless riffs and soulful melodies. Best known for her biting wit and clever lyricism, Laryssa stands out best as a songwriter, offering tremendously relatable content-often serving to inspire, often breaking your heart open as she spills hers.

Laryssa has been active in Portland for the past two years, with notable performances at venues like the Doug Fir and Mississippi Studios, appearances on Portland Radio Project (99.1 FM) and has been featured on KGW's Mic Check.

The Breaking

The Breaking is a pop rock band from Portland, OR. Brainchild of a recovering folk musician who grew up listening to 70′s and 90′s rock, the band draws inspiration from an amalgam of classic records like Rumors, The Bends, Born to Run, Achtung Baby, It Don’t Come Easy, and Recovering the Satellites. Fronted by Adam Sweeney (Incredible Yacht Control, The Cabin Project), the band features Rian Lewis (Crosstide, The Dimes) on drums, Jay Haser (Lifesavas, Marv Ellis band) on bass, and Tim Karplus (Alexander Tragedy, Redwood Son) on guitar. They released their debut EP, “Current Through the Wire” in December 2013. Swirling psychedelic harmonies, jangly 12-string and growling reverb-laden electric guitars compliment Sweeney’s darkly personal songwriting. The band is currently tracking it’s debut full length, due out in the fall of 2014. “The Breaking… sound like the resulting genesis of studying 1960′s coffeehouse folk music and 1970′s acid rock… they ripple with a soft fluidity and rich echoing vocals… that reverberate with the concept of controlled chaos.” – Ethan Maffey, The Source Weekly (Bend, OR) “The Breaking hits the ground running with their debut EP, Current Through The Wire. The tracks thoroughly grasp the band’s vintage rock sound… and will leave you hungry for more. This is a superb debut from a band with some serious musical chops.” – Ellene Smith, KZME 107.1FM
