#WomenCrush Music presents their first showcase of the 2018 season at The White Eagle with members of the Portland #WomenCrush Music team and noteable women artists from the Portland music scene. From pop, rock to folk, these local songwriters are the perfect introduction to the talent and community #WomenCrush Music has to offer.

About #WomenCrush Music:
#WomenCrush Music is a non-profit organization that serves to create opportunities for rising women songwriters by hosting international showcases, educational workshops & networking events. Whether they are just in the beginning of their careers and want to start performing at local venues, or they've just released their second album and are ready to go on tour. #WomenCrush Music wants to connect artists with future collaborators, educate them about the business and inspire them to make an impact on this male-dominated industry.

It was founded in January 2017, when Ashley Kervabon saw a need to build a stronger community amongst women in the music industry in Portland, OR. When the first showcase was a success, Ashley reached out to women in her online music communities to see if any other cities had ongoing showcase series for women artists. It was then that she realized there was a void that needed to be filled and she started her expansion by bringing the showcase series to her hometown of NYC. By fall of 2017 #WomenCrush had grown dramatically, including several new team members and many more new cities to launch in 2018, such as, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, New Orleans, Nashville, San Francisco, San Jose, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Missoula! About the host:
The Portland branch is often hosted by founder of #WomenCrush, Ashley Kervabon. Ashley started her music career in NYC where she was born & bred, but it wasn't until moving to Portland in 2015 that she realized what her real mission was: writing songs for other artists & helping them advance in their career. She is now pursuing this by leading the organization she created, #WomenCrush Music.

Tara Velarde

Songstress Indie Folk

Raised in the sleepy farmland outside of the nation's self-proclaimed weirdest city, Tara Velarde is a captivating combination of class and sass. Imagine Regina Spektor's spunk and Brandi Carlile's energy juxtaposed against Joni Mitchell's serenity, and you start to get the idea of this dynamic artist and her unique Diva Folk style.

Deena Drewis (Sacramento News and Review) states that the "cherubic vocals of frontwoman Tara Velarde will strike a chord with fans of Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson", and Kelsey Anne Rankin (Eugene Weekly) says that Velarde "Fuses a mixture of blunt and angelic vocals to express lyrics that sound like a soul put to melody." These poetic lyrics are introspective, sharp-witted, and often profound, sharing stories of life and revelations that captivate listeners and invite them on the journey.

With the release of "The Tara Novellas" (2014) , "Get Out and Walk" (2016), and her most recent single "Willow Baby" (2017), Velarde and her band have played extensively around their native Portland, OR and toured throughout the Western US and Canada. Velarde has appeared on radio, TV, and at numerous festivals and fairs, sharing her passion for music wherever it can be heard.

Hayley Lynn

Soulful Folk Pop

Hayley Lynn's songwriting has been a quiet but profound pursuit. She draws from experience, and it is that which creates her soundscape. Within her playful banter and the sharpness that the wit of her songwriting provides, there lies a deeply personal look at who Hayley Lynn was, is and who she strives to become.

During a snow storm in Portland, December of 2015, Hayley Lynn started recording her debut EP 'Hypnotize' with producer Riley Smith and bassist John Bruner. The work on the EP continued into spring as she recorded in Studio 12 with Adam Green. Hypnotize' was officially released June of 2016 exploring dark themes shrouded in mysticism.

Hayley Lynn and her band recently added another member, Amy Håkansson, who plays the violin, banjo, guitar and the nyckelharpa. She is currently working on a new record at Bungalow 9 Recording Studio with Danny O' Hanlon as producer, the record will be released in 2017.
