Ryan Meagher

Jazz guitarist and composer

Ryan Meagher

Ryan Meagher (pronounced Marr) is a jazz guitarist and composer who launched his international reputation in New York City in 2003 after completing his bachelor of music degree at San Diego State University.

He spent his first few years in New York discovering his compositional voice and honing his improvisational craft. During this period he launched his debut album Sun Resounding, announcing his arrival on the modern jazz scene. Shortly after the success of his second album entitled Atroefy on Fresh Sound New Talent Records, he attended the University of Nevada, Reno, to earn his master of music degree in pursuit of a career directing his own college jazz program. His third album Tone, was recorded in NYC in between his studies at UNR. It received international critical acclaim.

After completing his master's degree, Meagher relocated to Portland, Ore., where he quickly became a recognizable force in the creative music community. Along with releasing his fourth record Tango In the City of Roses, he has been instrumental in expanding the scene. He is a co-founder and Programming Director of the Montavilla Jazz Festival, Director of Operations of the Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble, Director of PJCE Records, Director of Portland State University's The Shed Summer Jazz Workshop, Editor of the Jazzscene Magazine, Marketing and Advertising Consultant for the Oregon Coast Jazz Party, and was interim Director of Jazz Studies at Mt. Hood Community College before taking his vision to the Lower Columbia College Jazz Ensemble. His fifth album as a leader is called Mist. Moss. Home.
