variety rich original tunes

Buzz Holland Five

Buzz Holland has been writing songs of many styles for 40 years. In his youth, he was one of the Goodman Brothers, a Philly quintet that relocated en masse to Marin County in the 70's. That band spawned the careers of brother Billy Goodman in Berlin, and guitar icon Steve Kimock, who now plays with various members of The Grateful Dead and tours globally under his own name.

When The Goodman Brothers disbanded after 10 years, Frank Goodman (now known as Buzz Holland) got into other things. He was the first salesman at Mesa/Boogie, the maverick amp company in Northern CA, and spent 10 years with them, in Europe and CA. He spent 12 years in Nashville, writing songs and there co-founded Puremusic.com, a popular webzine that got up to a million hits a month, and that lasted for 10 years. He toured in Europe as a duo with brother Billy after their duo CD Crooked Smile got four stars in the German Rolling Stone. He got involved with various projects with his entrepreneurial brother Jon (who managed Travis Tritt for years in his heyday) from Miami Beach to Shanghai that included co-producing and scoring an indie film in Los Angeles that starred Eric Roberts.

Always writing, but off the stage for 20 years, Buzz Holland is back with partner Duck Holland on the bass and sometimes Ashbolt Stewart on drums and percussion. They put on an entertaining show that includes Country, Blues, Jazz, Swing, and even folk, reggae and rap, all original songs that never run out. "But we still like to play a few songs by the Beatles or the Dead, and to dish out some unusual covers on the banjo, like the Stones' "Factory Girl."

Check out one of Portland's finest singers and songwriters, who also happens to play the heck out of the guitar and the banjo: Buzz Holland.

The Quags

Rock/pop

The Quags Hailing from Portland, OR and featuring the songs, voice and guitar of Tucson expat Dennis Mitchell (Brementown Musicians, Dennis Mitchell and the Wilsons), the Quags are quite simply a good old fashioned 4 piece rock band. Dennis is joined by Andy Ricker on bass (44 Long, Vehicle, J Hell, Nancy Hess Band, Moxy Love Crux), Jon Beyer on drums (Mission 5, Pacific Wonderland), and Jim Talstra on guitar (The Maroons, Pete Krebs and the Gossamer Wings, Dharma Bums, No. 2, Minus 5) all veterans of the diverse Portland music scene who have found common ground in Dennis? songs. Mining influences like the Kinks, Buzzcocks, Big Star, Small Faces, Curtis Mayfield, and The Jam, the Quags turn out the type of smart, fun, hooky and rocking tunes that back in the day were trotted out to the masses under the moniker ?powerpop?. Though looking to the past for inspiration, the Quags are firmly grounded in the present, equally at home in front of a crowd of young indie popsters or old school rockers. http://www.myspace.com/thequags
