Korby Lenker
Country, folk, rock and pop
Korby Lenker's country, folk, rock and pop was cultivated through explorations both earthy and educated. He played in alt.rock bands in high school, studied music in college and discovered bluegrass only after quitting the city and spending some time retreating in a little cabin. He went unplugged and started flat-picking, eventually lighting out to West Virginia where he attended both bluegrass festivals and Appalachian mountain church services. In 2000, Korby returned to the West Coast, where he formed The Barbed Wire Cutters, who SPIN called "the young riders of the bluegrass revolt." King of Hearts, Korby's 7th record in 5 years, was released in November 2005. A departure from his bluegrass roots, this rock-oriented effort features lived-to-tell-it songwriting, spurring KEXP to say: "This singer-songwriter expands his sound to stunning effect on his latest album."
