The Sound of Blue Note
The BIAMP PDX Jazz Festival will feature a specially curated weeklong program of top tier resident Portland artists at Al's Den celebrating the iconic Blue Note Sound from Sunday, February 24 through Saturday, March 2. These nightly programs are free and run from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Each year during the annual festival, artist/educator, Mary Sue Tobin and festival artistic director, Don Lucoff select a theme tied to headline programming. 2019 marks the 80th anniversary of the storied Blue Note imprint and this festival the music of Wayne Shorter, Hank Mobley, Lee Morgan, Leo Parker, Lou Donaldson, Eric Dolphy, Paul Chambers, among others will be reimagined with a special groove. Artists and their projects set to appear include: Cary Minga, Quinn Walker, Pete Peterson, Paul Mazzio, John Savage, Roger Woods, Ben Medler and Nicole McCabe.
