About Who Killed Chief Paulina? The violent life and mysterious death of a Paiute warrior

Who Killed Chief Paulina? The violent life and mysterious death of a Paiute warrior

Presented by Nate Pedersen, historian and writer

This presentation will be an investigation into the life and times of Chief Paulina, a Northern Paiute war leader who violently resisted Euro-American settlement in the Great Basin and for several years orchestrated a successful guerrilla war campaign in the deserts and mountains of eastern Oregon. After attacking Burnt Ranch on the John Day River, a posse of settlers hunted down Paulina and his band and Paulina was shot and killed in a cove near Ashwood, Oregon in 1867. Who exactly killed Paulina remains a mystery to this day...
