About The Oregon Wine Industry: History, Growth and Potential

The Oregon Wine Industry: History, Growth and Potential

Presented by Gregory Jones, Director of Wine Education, Linfield College

From Peter Britt in Southern Oregon in the 1850s, to the early Willamette Valley pioneers of the 1960s, to today’s vibrant wine industry, the state’s climate, landscape and soils have provided a diverse environment for growing a wide range of wine grapes that producers have crafted into world-class wines. This talk will provide insights into the storied history, exceptional growth and future potential of the Oregon wine industry.

About the Speaker:

Gregory Jones is Director of Wine Education at Linfield College and known globally as one of the preeminent wine climatologists. He regularly conducts research for the wine industry in Oregon and has given hundreds of presentations on climate and wine regionally, nationally and internationally. He was a contributing author to the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Report, as well as the author of many book chapters, reports and articles on wine economics, climate change and climatological assessments of viticulture potential.
