U.S Senator Mark Hatfield, arguably the most influential elected official in Oregon’s history, was known for being unafraid to stand up for his beliefs. At the 1973 National Prayer Breakfast, he called on America to “turn in repentance from the sin that scarred our national soul.” President Nixon was not pleased. Join us to learn about the fallout, the president’s conversation with the Rev. Billy Graham captured on the infamous Nixon tapes, and Hatfield’s surprising decision following Nixon’s resignation.About the Speaker:Kevin Curry was an executive producer of the documentary film The Gentleman of the Senate: Oregon's Mark Hatfield and is a doctoral candidate in public affairs at The Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University. He is the director of integrated media and an adjunct professor at Linfield College. *Photo credit: U.S. Senate Historical Office
