About A Union, Entwined: Wine and the Liberal Arts in Oregon

A Union, Entwined: Wine and the Liberal Arts in Oregon

Presented by Jeff D. Peterson, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Sociology and Wine Studies

This presentation will explore the modern history of the Oregon wine industry through the sociological lens, including how winemaking is connected to an approach linking an appreciation of the arts, science, and environmental issues. While the early success of the modern wine period in Oregon may be attributed to this approach, and the respective backgrounds of the early grape growers in the region, Peterson will argue that the future of Oregon wine hinges more closely on an interdisciplinary, liberal arts approach to understanding the needs and changes in the industry.\

About the Speaker:

Jeff D. Peterson is associate professor of sociology and wine studies at Linfield College. He conducts the yearly Oregon Wine Industry Labor Survey supported by the Oregon Wine Board. He recently completed a sabbatical studying wine in Spanish-speaking countries in South America and Spain.
