About Suds, Hops and Chutzpah: A Global History of Beer from King Tut to the Willamette Valley

Suds, Hops and Chutzpah: A Global History of Beer from King Tut to the Willamette Valley

Presented by Dr. Sean Munger, Historian

From ancient Iran to King Tut’s Tomb, a 10th-century bar in Ireland and the modern craft brewery, beer has been part of the human experience since pretty much the dawn of time. The history of this beverage and its mystique cuts across most human cultures and many nations. This globetrotting presentation will hit many highlights of beer’s long story, including brewing in Roman and medieval times, the role of beer in the history of German immigrants in America, how the Willamette Valley became the center of the world’s modern hops industry and how Oregon became “Beervana.”
