Diva Folk artist Tara Velarde combines commanding vocals and thought-provoking lyrics into a genre distinctly her own. Part soul, part singer-songwriter, part blues-rock, and with a splash of the theater, Velarde takes the stage with charm, sass, and a quest to find the far reaches of her vocal abilities.

Listeners liken her performance to Adele, Brandi Carlile, and Carole King - great female powerhouses with a lot to say. Glide Magazine says: "While rooted in folk and pop, the [new] album finds Tara tapping into a more soulful sound, which suits her well as she definitely has the vocal chops. It also displays a young artist with a soaring sense of confidence who isn't afraid to step outside her musical comfort zone and take risks for the sake of the song."

With the recent release of "Rise" (EP, 2019) following her freshman “Get Out and Walk” (LP, 2016), Velarde stays active on the road and in the studio. She tours both solo and with her full band throughout the Western US, and in 2018 made her European debut with a 3 week tour of Italy.

The Hillwilliams are a group of Portland, OR musicians who have come together to celebrate the high lonesome sound and hot picking of traditional Bluegrass.

Brought together initially by admiration for bluegrass masters like Bill Monroe and The Stanley Brothers as well as 1970s bluegrass supergroup Old and in the Way, The Hillwilliams blend three strong vocalists, smoking fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo and doghouse bass, into a fun high energy mix, that harkens back to classic bluegrass, while exploring an exciting sound of their own. Whether they are playing the best of the traditional bluegrass repertoire, or playing their own original bluegrass songs, their shows are fun, high energy events that leave audiences asking for more.

The Hillwilliams' first album of original material, "Hill Yeah!", was released in February of 2015.

Rob Rainwater is a performing artist, songwriter, stories teller, guitarist, and mandolinist.  He is also a studio musician, producer, and at times, a bit of a stand-up comic once he takes the stage. Drawing on a background steeped in blues, folk, classic rock, and bluegrass, Rob creates a rich mix of originals and classic blues and rock covers. His songwriting comes from the heart, telling both autobiographical and fictional accounts of a man who emerged from a battered beginning and fought internally to discover his source of joy and hope as an adult. Rob is a man who has earned his right to sing the blues, and he can wail with the best of them. Then in the next turn, he'll share a song that points to a silver lining, a lesson learned, a truth accepted. Rob is a genuine people-person, a tender-hearted creative, and his passion is to express his experience through music and hear others' stories, too.

Timothy James is fast making a name for himself not only in the Portland area, but in the music community.   This 17-year-old guitar slinger is known for being able to hold his own with seasoned musicians 4 times his age.

At the tender age of nine years old, when most 3rd graders are worried about being picked first for a ballgame and watching the clock for when school is out, Timothy was watching his father play guitar.  Now in his teens, he's the first on many people's minds when it comes to the new face of the blues.  Following in the footsteps of such young greats as Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Timothy was born in March of 2002 and lives in the small rural community of Mulino, Oregon with his parents and sister, just outside the Portland Metro area.   While growing up in a small Oregon town, Timothy was accustomed to jam sessions where his father and friends would get together regularly to play music.  He was enrolled in Piano lessons for a couple of years at an early age, but never seemed very inspired by piano.  His parents also co-hosted an annual event called the Mulino Blues Festival that began in 2000 and continues to be a favorite summer, memory-making event and attracting top-notch talent from around the region to play. 

It was during rehearsals for the MBF one year that Timothy said,  “ I want to do a song with you dad!”.   That was in 2011 and while he had learned some chords and strumming, it was that performance of Knocking on Heaven’s Door that really got him hooked.  He continued to learn more and more about all things guitar and music and the next year got up solo and played two songs to an amazed crowd.

Over the next several years, Timothy attended local open mics and jam sessions honing his skills and learning new ones from the many seasoned players he was jamming with.   It wasn’t long before his skills on the guitar had surpassed the Old Man’s so his dad hired a multi-instrumental teacher, Ken Brewer, to take him to the next level.   Timothy began to get noticed by other working musicians at the jams and before long he was being invited as a guest player for several paying gigs. 

It was in 2016 that the family joined the Cascade Blues Association to sign Timothy up for the Journey to Memphis competition with the goal of playing during the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, a renowned contest that brings acts from around the world.  Timothy was selected in 2016 to be the CBA’s Youth Representative and he played in various clubs along the famous Beale street in 2017 and again in 2018. 

Since that first trip to Memphis for IBC Timothy has played at the Waterfront Blues Festival, the Gorge Brews and Blues Festival, the Cathedral Park Jazz Festival, the Tualatin Crawfish Festival and numerous venues throughout the Portland area.  On his 16^th Birthday he was invited to play with famous Blue Man Walter Trout at Yoshi’s in Oakland, California and with Curtis Salgado in Portland Oregon. 

Full Moon Stomp is a Portland-based acoustic trio playing a lively, eclectic combination of Americana roots, world, blues and folk originals and covers.

Patrick Buckley, on guitar, harmonica and vocals, is a dual-citizen of Ireland and the United States. He performs in his Irish band "Grafton Street" as well as being co-founder of the long-time Portland troubadours "The Pagan Jug Band." Two of his original songs have been used in film - one for CBS and another in an independent documentary.

Heidi Hodge, on double bass, guitar, vocals and percussion, pens beautiful ballads and provides sweet harmonies. She has played throughout the Pacific Northwest in various groups including "Dr. Trucker" and "Toutle River Pickers."

2d Stropparo is an accomplished vocalist and songwriter who also plays ukelele, washboard and other percussion. She hails from the East Coast, having played there with the renowned "Folk Soul Band." In Portland, she has played in "Zingari" and the popular "Christie Josef and The Purpose." Collectively, members of the group have been playing in various Portland bands for over 25 years.

Started in the winter of 2012, The Moonshine began crafting a style all their own based on applying traditional stringband techniques to the unconventional, yet instantly familiar writing of Michael Gerard Levasseur. This is music born of the endless wonder of the open countryside, just as it is music meant to be heard blaring from brightly lit dance halls on crowded city streets. During a given performance one is as likely to hear a modernist take on a Carter Family song from the 20's, as an anti-GMO song written in 2012 with a distinctly old-time feel.

As young musicians passionate about opera and about their hometown, Emily Nelson and Bethany Schweitzer Goshorn thought, "What better place for an Opera on Tap chapter than our fair city known for its beer, wine and cocktail culture?" Thus Opera on Tap PDX was born - one of 16 nationwide chapters of Opera on Tap. Northwest native Sadie Gregg joined the Managing Diva team in 2016, after singing with the Boston chapter.

Why are we so passionate about opera? Opera speaks to the human condition. It expresses human emotion and relationship in a very unique and profound way. The human voice in all its glory has a visceral effect on us. In a culture focused on instant gratification with short attention spans, opera demands your full attention and rewards you with a wild ride on the emotional roller coaster.

Chances are that people who say they don't like opera have never heard it live! Opera on Tap seeks to change this by bringing the genre back to the people in familiar places: community gathering spaces, restaurants, and bars - much how music was historically enjoyed in Germany pubs. We seek to share, educate and bring simply fabulous music to an audience that might not otherwise be able to enjoy the art form. Opera on Tap (OOT) was born in 2005 at Freddy's Bar and Backroom in Brooklyn and incorporated in 2007 to promote opera as a viable, living, and progressive art form and to support the developing artists who continue to keep the art form alive. What began as a small monthly gathering of ambitious, classically trained singers looking for more performance opportunities has grown into a producing organization that has gained a loyal audience base and national recognition as an innovative force on the classical music scene. Through its Chapter program, which now has sixteen vibrant national chapters, OOT has created a large network of performers, creators, and supporters.
