Launched in the foothills of Beaverton in 1990, the Oak Hills Brewery, like the Lighthouse before it, put the Brewer in the closest thing to a fishbowl among Portland breweries: It's near impossible for any customer to escape the action during the brewing process. Currently staffed by resident brewer Dan Black, Oak Hills' tap board can be counted on to have a full range of interesting styles.Note: Beers poured at this tasting event qualify for happy hour pricing. This event is an Official Limited Edition Beer Tasting! You can obtain an experience stamp, getting you one step closer to a $20 gift card, if you've purchased the Passport Insert that allows for additional experience stamps.
This is one thick, full-flavored Stout! Molasses and star anise were added during a vigorous boil to provide more complexity to the large doses of dark Crystal and Dark Chocolate Malts. This brew is balanced by more than an adequate amount of whole leaf Brewers Gold Hops that lend a bit of spiciness. After all that, a small portion of this batch was aged in a Billy Whiskey Barrel for four months. The barrel was provided by the Master Distillers at Cornelius Pass Roadhouse. The Billy Whiskey barrel adds flavors of oak, vanilla, and of course, whiskey!Special Techniques: Aged Four Months in Billy Whiskey BarrelSpecial Ingredients: Star Anise, MolassesMalts: Pilsner, Wheat, Crystal 120, Crystal 156, Dark Chocolate MaltHops: Brewers GoldOG: 1.095 TG: 1.020 ABV: 9.67 IBU: 64 SRM: 47
