Powerful and funky, The Super Saturated Sugar Strings's take on modern Americana is full of dense, intricate, virtuosic instrumental arrangements and shout-to-the-rafter vocals. Their lush back-beat-americana-meets-chamber-ensemble sound has stirred a large congregation of dedicated fans in Alaska. On their new album, ALL THEIR MANY MILES (released March 23, 2018) they've managed to translate not only the high energy stomp and swing of their live shows to the studio, but also to capture some of the magic that brings together Anchorage's music community. There's an element of carnival sideshow in their sometimes cinematic sound, drenched in strings and horns and bombastic ideas. Nobody does anything small in Alaska, and this Alaskan band delivers a mesmerizing and powerful performance with energetic charm.
The group formed in 2011 in Anchorage, Alaska and includes Kat Moore on vocals, piano, keyboard, and percussion; Carlyle Watt on vocals, guitar, and percussion; Theresa Watt on cello; Miriah Phelps on violin; Logan Bean on trumpet; Kevin Worrell on bass.
Folkslinger conveys a melodic soundscape, balancing ambient americana storytelling with textured tones of shoe-gaze psychedelics. The groups songs are layered pop formats designed to break your heart or mend it. Anticipate songs about lovers lost, courted, gained, absent and new as well as tales of friends here, there, present and gone. Folkslinger builds songs about life, it's struggles and celebrations. With quirky wordplay and catchy guitar lines you may find yourself lost in song and the moment of now.
Substance and accessibility. They're often considered opposing forces when it comes to pop music, making it all the more impressive when a band like Scenic Route to Alaska so effortlessly delivers ample doses of both.
Since dropping their acclaimed third LP, Long Walk Home, in 2016, the prairie indie outfit has amassed an impressive pile of achievements and accolades at home and abroad. The album, which finds the trio effortlessly weaving catchy vocals and memorable melodies through rich arrangements, led to label signings and swelling success across Europe and Australia. It also spawned number ones on CBC Radio 2 and 3, two Western Canadian Music Award nods, and numerous TV placements on major networks. Now, the band is ready to build on that success with their upcoming fourth studio album, Tough Luck.
