Moody Little Sister is the next great band to emerge from Portland. Their songwriting is emotionally moving and beautifully structured...a rare combination of moment-by-moment inspiration.- Mike Meyer, concert producer, KRVM-fm
Some things are just meant to be. When Naomi Hooley moved 3000 miles, from a small town in Alaska, the chances of meeting Rob Stroup, from a small town in Oregon, were pretty slim. But it happened... and from the moment they met it was clear they were destined to combine their abundant musical talents. Rob is the producer, co-writer and band mate for Naomi's energetic, emotional and evolutionary vintage piano-pop.
A prolific writer with a unique style and vocal signature, Naomi has been praised by the media for a voice both "soulful and bold." She recalls 70's folk legends from Jim Croce to Carole King but is informed by the modern vocal prowess of Adele or Annie Lennox.
A founding member of Portland's famed roots rockers, The Baseboard Heaters, Rob's musical background draws on 60's rock and classic country and is informed by the "Oklahoma sound" of JJ Cale and the bluesy sides of Dylan.
The two have released their masterwork "Wild Places" produced by Pete Droge ("If You Don't Love Me (I'll Kill Myself)") and features the haunting drums of Jay Bellerose (Alison Krauss/Robert Plant "Rainsing Sand," Elton John/Leon Russell "Union") and the bass playing of Jennifer Condos (Ray LaMontagne, Stevie Nicks). Naomi says: "This record is truly the best work of my life. I wrote songs from my honest soul; Rob and I co-wrote for the first time in our careers. I think the results are a fusion of energies. It's a combination of beauty and hardship, just like life."
Together they cover a lot of ground and meld powerful piano and acoustic guitar to support their dazzling harmonies and profound story telling. Naomi and Rob have taken this act up and down the West Coast - from rock clubs to camp grounds to the Grand Canyon - and continue to be lovingly received by a diverse and growing audience.
