McMenamins historian Kerry Conroy
Luke Sheehan was born March 27, 1873, in Cork City, Ireland. As a young man, he entered the Capuchin Franciscans, an order of priests and brothers inspired by St. Francis of Assisi.
By 1910 and at the age of 37, having served in posts throughout Europe and the Middle East, Father Luke was sent around the globe to Bend, Oregon. His mission was to establish a Capuchin parish, the first in the state and the first of his many lasting accomplishments that thrive in Bend today.
About the SpeakerKerry Conroy has been with McMenamins for 13 years - the first eight with the marketing department and the last five (and counting...) as an assistant historian.
These monthly, free events are open to everyone interested in Oregon and Pacific Northwest history. Co-sponsored by like-minded historical and civic organizations, we bring you experts, scholars, first-person experiencers and historians who expound on topics from Lewis and Clark to shipwrecks, hop growing to women pioneers and far, far beyond. It's like being back in the classroom - except this time you get to settle into comfortable seats and enjoy a drink or two with dinner while you listen and learn.
This event is eligible for a History Pub Stamp
