"You can hear the gathering storm clouds...swell and darken behind Biespiel's powerful voice."
- Stephenie Rose, Rose Rundown
Born on a farmhouse in rural Maryland, raised in the cocoon of inner SE Portland, OR and educated on the cold, dirty streets of Boston, it's no surprise that Lucas Biespiel has made his way in the musical world as a poster child for creative versatility. Biespiel learned to sing folk tunes and blues standards at a young age, listening to traditional folk and blues legends like like Leadbelly, Howlin' Wolf, and Blind Willie McTell, in addition to revivalists like Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. A talented singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Biespiel holds his own on the keys, guitar, and ukulele, as well as a host of other instruments. But his weapon of choice is the violin, an instrument he first picked up at the tender age of 5 and later studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Now residing in Portland, Biespiel spends his nights dancing from venue to venue, and plays a vital part in Portland's thriving roots scene.
