About Kontext

Kontext

The story of Kontext started with drummer Nate Powell and Dutch/Moroccan MC Ameen as they found themselves playing in the same pop up band. After jamming together, the bandleader left the country to spend some time abroad, they knew they had to start a project where they could continue playing. Nate quickly got Benjamin Zuelsdorf (jazz piano) on board, who recruited funk and hip hop bassist Alden Zac. They frequently feature guest artists including vocalists, guitar and horns.

Kontext's shows are known for being high energy, given the extensive history each of the band members have as performers. They are always honing their unique sound, alternating from straight up boom bap to smooth groovy jazz and funk. The constant integration of guest artists allows each show to be truly unique, while they retain their laser-like focus, creating a vital connection between the musicians and the MC.

About Human Ottoman

Human Ottoman

Human Ottoman is a cello, vibraphone, drum-set power trio! Like nothing you have heard before! Based in the Great Northwest, the trio started in early 2013 and has since been developing their fun and fresh sound. How to describe Human Ottoman?... Catchy melodies inspired by world music, metal cello solos that will cause your brain to crash, electric vibraphone sounds that leave you pleased and puzzled, and polyrhythmic drum set breakdowns that will send you dancing all the way home. So, if anyone asks, you can say... Matthew Cartmill- cello Susan Lucia- drums Grayson Fiske- vibraphone
