Macintosh II computers, The Deschutes River, Little League Baseball, Old Auburn Road, Sincerely Goodbye, Laramie, Paint Shop rock shows, Oregon State University, The Rose Garden, Erforschung, The Orbital, Durban, Guinness, No Pity... While the words seem like cacophony, they are just a few of the puzzle pieces that brought the bonfire district together. The four have been friends for decades, and after years of living and working in Portland, they decided to make music together. During the initial rehearsals, the four strove to make the band's sound nothing other than their own. They knew they couldn't reinvent the wheel, and determined to simply express their collective voice.
Stubborn Son is the alter ego to America's comfort-seeking 9-to-5. Formed over three-finger pours and stacks of vinyl records, this Seattle trio sits nicely between the visual stylings of the 1960s, sonic infusions of the ‘70s, and indie rock of today. Their kinetic performances teeter on the edge of euphoric and possessed.Stubborn Son's 2015 LP release Birthright was recorded to vintage 2" tape with producer Martin Feveyear (Mudhoney, Kings of Leon). Their latest single "Blood On My Teeth" is a tongue-in-cheek response to the pain we sometimes endure to love someone.
Frontman Garrett Lamp's spacious melodies are written as if guitar is secondary to vocals, intentionally thoughtful, sexy and powerful. Blair Daly delivers drum parts with scientific precision and earthy energy. Bassist/keyboardist Andrew Knapp adds to the cocktail a huge dose of tone, propelling the music forward, omnisciently connecting the space between rhythm and melody. This is a band obsessed with intoxicating sounds. They are discontent to leave audiences unaffected; they perform as if there's something to prove.
Kool Stuff Katie is a Portland-based indie rock band, infused with pop, punk, and New Wave sounds. Their signature stylistic elements include electric synth hooks, heavy drums and guitar, intricate vocal harmonies, and brief but powerful songwriting. Formed in 2012, they consist of Shane Blem (lead vocals and guitar) and Saren Oliver (drums, vocals, synth.)
