Join us for a free, public screening of OPB's new Oregon Experience documentary "Vanport." This film tells the story of Vanport, Oregon, which, in the early 1940s, was the second-largest city in the state before a catastrophic flood destroyed it. The program examines how the city was created and thrived, and is told through very personal stories of former residents and rarely seen archival film and images from a variety of sources. It includes firsthand accounts of what it was like to live there, to flee from fast rising waters, and the devastation after the flood. (Photo credit: Oregon Historical Society)
These monthly, free events are open to everyone interested in Oregon and Pacific Northwest history. Co-sponsored by like-minded historical and civic organizations, we bring you experts, scholars, first-person experiencers and historians who expound on topics from Lewis and Clark to shipwrecks, hop growing to women pioneers and far, far beyond. It's like being back in the classroom - except this time you get to settle into comfortable seats and enjoy a drink or two with dinner while you listen and learn.
